Committees

Executive Committee

The role of the Executive Committee is to manage the business of the Society and to promote the Society. The Committee ensures that proper records are kept of appointments of officers, of the proceedings of all meetings of the Society and of the Executive Committee and that accurate accounting records are kept. The Committee is composed of a group of dedicated professionals who work in academia, industry or government toxicology. Nominations for appointment to the Executive Committee are sought from the Nominations Subcommittee and BTS members are encouraged to express interest in serving on the Executive Committee.

Scientific Sub-Committee

One of the most visible of the activities of the BTS are its scientific meetings, including the yearly Congress. The primary role of Scientific Sub-Committee (SSC) is to organise such meetings, taking into account topical developments in the science of toxicology, and the interests both of the BTS membership and individuals from other organisations. To that end, as well as considering ideas from any member for meeting topics, the SSC also fosters connections with other societies and organisations wishing to run collaborative meetings. Output from SSC shapes the content, structure and location of BTS scientific meetings. The Committee also advises on strategy and policy matters relating to the science of toxicology in the UK, and provides a nucleus of expertise covering various disciplines. The Chair reports into the BTS Executive Committee. Composition of the Committee matches the demographics of BTS membership and includes the Secretary who also coordinates scientific meetings), Meetings Abstracts Editor, and direct representation or co-option including the Early Careers Toxicologists Sub-Committee, Communications Sub-Committee, IVTS, and Speciality sections.

Education Sub-Committee

The role of the Education Sub-Committee is to provide training and education and encourage professional development in the discipline of toxicology. The Committee is composed of a group of dedicated professionals who work in academia, industry or government toxicology and the Chair reports into the BTS Executive Committee. In particular, we ensure that a teaching session is held at the scientific meetings of the Society, provide relevant information on careers in toxicology and help in any coordination of education and training activities within and outside the Society.

Finance Sub-Committee

The Finance Subcommittee is responsible for preparing and submitting to the Executive Committee a proposed budget for each financial year, for monitoring income and spending against budget profile, and for progressing matters related to the finances of the Society.
