Professor Rob Chilcott

Professor Chilcott has been Chair of Toxicology at the University of Hertfordshire since 2008 and has nearly 30 years’ experience of toxicological research and teaching. He has been a subject matter expert on UK, EU and US Government committees and has led a number of international research collaborations, most recently culminating in the implementation of new US federal guidance on the emergency services’ response to chemical incidents. Professor Chilcott has published a number of peer-reviewed articles, patents, textbooks and book chapters relating to chemical warfare agents, dermal toxicology and decontamination. His current research interests include the improved detection of banned athletic substances, mitigating exposure to toxic aerosols & vapours, the development of new point-of-care diagnostic devices and decontamination of chemical and radiological agents from individuals and building structures. Professor Chilcott is currently responsible for a significant departmental budget and has ten years’ experience of corporate finance as the director of limited companies. His previous contributions to the BTS (which he originally joined in 1992) include membership of the Education Subcommittee (2008-2010) and BTS representative of the panel for the Register of Toxicologists as member (2003 – 2011) and Chair (2011 – 2015).
