Developing Safety Science Apprenticeships
The British Toxicology Society (BTS) launched the Skills Gap Initiative to strategically map and deliver training for regulatory toxicologists and safety scientists in the UK. This initiative works in tandem with accredited apprenticeships to ensure early-career scientists receive the precise, highly regulated safety and toxicology education required by modern industry standards.
Having launched the successful CPD Training Programme for graduates the BTS Skill Gap Initiative is now looking to help support those entering the science field pre degree level and are looking to set up alternative pathways for the next generation of Toxicologists with the UKHSA. The Skills Gap Initiative plans to develop fresh, flexible entry routes and evolve opportunities for Toxicology in the UK. This is an important part of the Skills Gap Initiative because:
- The UKHSA and the BTS have both recognised growing challenges in attracting, developing and retaining Toxicologists .
- Fewer people are joining the profession, capability is declining, and expert knowledge is being lost.
- The UKHSA created Talent Partners, including one dedicated to Toxicology, and BTS established the Skills Gap Initiative to understand and address the skills gaps and provide improved career opportunities for the Toxicology Profession.
