President’s Newsletter: July 2023

Dear BTS Member

In this President’s message I should like to take this opportunity to provide some information on the 2023 BTS Annual Congress, to provide the dates of the 2024 BTS Annual Congress  and draw your attention to the appointment of a Webmaster to help maintain the BTS website and to the deadline for nominations for the award of Fellowship of the British Toxicology Society (FBTS).

BTS Congress 2023. The 2023 Congress was held 17th to 19th April at the Park Regis Hotel, Birmingham. I am very pleased to report that this in person Congress was very well attended with 287 registrants. The Congress included a Continuing Education Programme, eight symposia, plenary, hot topic and BTS award lectures, BTS Speciality Section round table discussions and a Study Directors Workshop. There were 50 poster and 14 oral presentations. It was pleasing to see so many delegates at this successful and inspiring scientific meeting. BTS members who attended the Congress will be able to access recordings of scientific sessions they may have missed from the BTS website.

BTS Congress 2024. Following the success of the 2023 BTS Congress I am pleased to announce that the 2024 BTS Congress will be held from Monday 15th  to Wednesday 17th April 2024 at Spaces at the Spine, Liverpool. Further information will be made available on the BTS website. Please note these dates and I hope to see many BTS members at the 2024 Annual Congress.

BTS Website. As members will be aware we have updated our current  website. The website is an improvement over the previous version and we are committed to the upkeep of the website so that it is a useful resource for our members and other non-members visiting the website to find out about the work of the Society. In order to maintain the website to a high standard, the Executive Committee concluded that we needed the services of a Webmaster. Following an advertising campaign and interviews, I am very pleased to announce that Adam Sewell, a copywriter, PR and marketing consultant, with more than eleven years’ experience of supporting businesses with their messaging, has been appointed as Webmaster. Adam will commence working with us from 1st July 2023, his appointment being for a 12 month period in the first instance. The BTS Executive Committee welcomes Adam to this role to support the Society.

Fellowship of the British Toxicology Society (FBTS). Individuals elected to FBTS will have made a substantial contribution to the discipline of toxicology and will also normally have made a significant contribution to the work of the Society. Details of how BTS members can apply to receive the FBTS award are available on the website. The closing date for applications this year is 1st September 2023.

Finally, as in previous President’s messages, the BTS Committees are here to serve the membership and we are always open to receiving your suggestions for any changes that can be made including topics for scientific meetings.

Best wishes to you all for the forthcoming summer holiday period.

Brian
